Frugal Food: Sour Cream Pound Cake

It’s a lazy Sunday in the SHL household. We’re minding our budget and sticking close to home so we don’t spend unnecessarily (and it is beastly hot outside). I went to the neighborhood gym this morning while Hubby went swimming at the pool. We came home and racked our brains as to how to occupy ourselves today.

Rewind to last night when I was searching the refrigerator and found a container of sour cream that was two days past its “best by” date. In an effort to not waste food, I went searching on Allrecipes to find something that I could make that would utilize the rest of the sour cream. And I found this gem: Sour Cream Pound Cake.

Hubby adores pound cake. However, I don’t like the price of it whenever I see it at the grocery store. My boredom turned into an experiment in making my first homemade pound cake – and to not waste food, of course.

I don’t own a loaf pan, so I used my trusty 9x13 cake pan. I plan to look out for a decent loaf pan in my thrifting adventures because this pound cake is delish! I added some vanilla extract to the mix, and next time I want to experiment with a glaze for it. I consider this frugal food because I had all of the ingredients (all very basic ingredients) on hand - no trips to the store necessary!
