Regaining My Frugality Mojo

I just sat down to pay our bills and realized that we’re going to come up short this month. I put a good chunk towards a medical debt, but we also had some extra charges on our cell phone bill this billing cycle (I take full responsibility for those charges). We also moved earlier in May, so we don’t have as much carrying over into June as we may have.

I’m not thrilled about coming up short. I don’t want to dip into savings at all – we’ve borrowed enough from there and haven’t fully replenished it. I now want to go full-steam ahead in finding areas to save in our budget. Hubby and I have discussed some options already:

- We are gathering quotes for auto and renter’s insurance. We are waiting for a reply from one company in particular that his parents deal with – they switched to this company and saved $40 a month on their car insurance.
- We have reduced one of our medical debts by $35 a month.
- We will continue to be energy-conserving fiends to keep our electric bill done. We’ve been paying close attention to our energy usage for the past few months, and it has really helped. This first month in our new place should yield interesting results; we moved to a new city and now deal with a different electric company.

Frugality will become my middle name again.

  1. I started back on my budget this month since I now have car and insurance payments, and I'm so frustrated. I accidentally shorted myself a week in my gas budget (I budgeted out 4 weeks instead of 5 because I didn't count the week I was in when I drew up the budget) and all of a sudden, people want to hang out with me. This ALWAYS happens when my budget is super tight. I don't get paid again until the 15th and I feel like being a hermit for the next 2 1/2 weeks isn't realistic, but at the same time, I don't want to spend any more money! Gah!

  2. Agreed. The fun always turns up when I forget to budget about it. One month I'll get things right. :)
